Hi, i have alot of green alge on my gravel, lr, and glass. I have a cleaning crew and they have helped a lot but they still come up short. My question is my lfs said PhosGuard would work perfect in this situation (poor the pellets in the bag and put them in the filter, Will the PhosGuard KILL my good alge (PURPLE ALGE) thats on my lr and will it harm anything else.
PS. I leave my lights on for 10 hours a day. everyone says between 10 to 12 hr`s a day.
60 gallon tall octagon.
reef and some fish.
150 seaclone skimmer
400watt MH Pendant 12,000k Sunburst.
PHOSGUARD, WILL IT HELP OR HURT?:)

I believe what phosguard does, is it removes phosphates from your water. Whether it works or not, I've never used it. I don't see it harming anything, and your corraline algae will be fine.
The problem is, it only masks your problem; It doesn't eliminate it. I would recommend getting a phosphate test kit, and if it tests high, I would try to find the cause of the problem (dead fish, too much feeding, etc.).

Thank you so much, I think it could be not enough water changes. I was thinking for a moment and i realized i change my water (10%) every 14 days. I will try at 10 days and see if this helps first.
Thank you, Billy:D

Get a phosphate test kit. If your phosphates are high, then running some phosguard would be good. Are you using RO water? Uping your waterchanges should help too, but you need to make sure that your waterchange water is phosphate free also.
