No. phophates is something you don't want. The ph (sorry don't know what it stand for) is what needs to be maintained at a 8.3-8.5 level. Be sure you have the test kits. Kalk brings up ph. if you use it. I'm sure more people w/ help from here .

Phosphates come in organic and inorganic forms. Algea can form and start to grow if the levels get too high. Organic phosphates come from waste in the tank.
Ph is a measure of hydroxyl ions in the water. (oops sorry)
They are not the same and don't really even relate to each other.

pH is a measure of Hydroxly ions(OH-).

pH refers to the acidity or alkalinity of something, in this case salt water. Little numbers are acidic and big numbers are alkaline. Acidity = acid. Alkalinity=base. A pH of 6 is acid, a pH of 8 is alkaline. Hope that helps...
