Phosphate and Ph same thing?

No. phophates is something you don't want. The ph (sorry don't know what it stand for) is what needs to be maintained at a 8.3-8.5 level. Be sure you have the test kits. Kalk brings up ph. if you use it. I'm sure more people w/ help from here .

Phosphates come in organic and inorganic forms. Algea can form and start to grow if the levels get too high. Organic phosphates come from waste in the tank.
Ph is a measure of hydroxyl ions in the water. (oops sorry)
They are not the same and don't really even relate to each other.

pH refers to the acidity or alkalinity of something, in this case salt water. Little numbers are acidic and big numbers are alkaline. Acidity = acid. Alkalinity=base. A pH of 6 is acid, a pH of 8 is alkaline. Hope that helps... :)
