I got a Kent Phosphate Sponge put about 1 1/2 cups of it into a net and let it sit in m tank for 38 hours (max 48). So now...theres still the slime algae I was trying to get rid of there. Its a thin slime and I crush it and mush it up and it comes right back. I tryed cutting back on lighting alot, didn't do anything. Tryed reducing feeding didn't do anything. Havn't done a water change since the phosephate sponge....what can I do? Thanks

There are other products for removing red slime from the system. Search the forum or the WEB and you will find some other products. But if you are talking about Kent Marine products, you need "Organic material oxidizer".
Good luck.

I used kent's phosphate sponge and it worked great for me, did you have water flowing through the bag? I put mine in my emporer 400. I also had cyanobacteria, I did the phosphate sponge, did a 25% water change and sucked as much of the red slime out as possible. It still did not go away, I used chemi-clean, it is a red slime remover, I do not like to add chemicals to kill things in my tank, but I didn't know what else to do, It worked wonderfully, no more red slime.

The deal with slime algae is not really phosphate. It's a certain bacterias. My LFS recommended the chemi-clean, which they claimed works great for red slime.

The natural way to rid tank of red slime algae or real name cyanobacteria is to first make sure you have a deep sand bed of at least 3in. second do a 50%water change. (changeing less water will not rid the tank of enough bacteria...say the numbers posted one time and you will never get there...two 25% changes do not equal 50%). third lower lights to 4hrs a day for at least 4days..then slowly start adding 1 to 2 hr a day till back to normal... crashed my first reef and got out of hobby for awhile fighting this problem. Someone said do water changes but did not say how much...I got tired of fighting it...If you must us a chemical us chemi-clean from Boyd Enterprises.. can do a search on web..then after 48hrs do a 50%water change to get back to normal... good luck...remember this is bacteria not an algae caused from phosphates...
