Phosphate sponge

What are the phosphate sponges made of? Is it just zeolite, and carbon? Has anyone used just zeolite in thier filters (canister)? Just curious, trying to cut down an algea, and phosphates where at .2 not bad, just thought I would eliminate one more thing contributing to the algea...
By the way this is just a glass algea issue, rock etc is well taken care of by the hermits..I don't want to get to many snails and feel I am close to the balance of enough to eat and to many snails...
Endlessly trying to make it easier to take care of..Working smarter not harder...I hope!

Rowaphos works well but only use it when you have to. In the UK we have been using it for some time.
I have found that if you use too much and for long periods you get a brown slime algea start to form.
It clears up if the Rowaphos is removed and Polyfilter is used. It could be that it leaches iron.
