Pic of my new nano

Well, it's not exactly new. It's been up for about 3 months now. It is a 12 gallon JBJ modified with 96 watts of PC lighting. It has the pump replaced with a 150 gph pump and another small submersible pump (you can't see it in the pic) around 90 gph behind the rockwork. Corals include several zoanthid colonies and what I purchased as a "capnella" that hasn't expanded since I put it in the tank two months ago. Fish include two small percs and a yellow coris. Caulerpa grows in there, two different varities and halimeda has been sprouting from the top rock lately (can't see it in the pic). There's also a skunk cleaner shrimp and 4 peppermints in there along with two blue hermits, 4 turbo snails, 3 cerith snails, and a conch I just addes (it's small, I'm going to take it out when it gets bigger). Water parameters have been amazing (I thank the caulerpa which grows like weeds and I have to harvest weekly - feeds my tangs in my main tank). What do you guys think?

Where did u get your lights? I have a 12g nanocube and would love to upgrade my lights, I would not be able to do anything on my own though, I know nothing about that stuff and wouldn't even atempt it.

There's an online site that does cube customization - more than just lights. If you email me at melindy@mun.ca I'll send you the link. I don't think I'd be permitted to post it here.

Don't they have to customize it before you buy the cube? Or did u buy a new hood or how did it work? If the site is nanocustoms.com, i've been there and found it kind of confusing, what exactly do I need to order, or what did you order? If that's not the site, let me know and i'll e-mail you. Thanx!

Well I ordered the whole tank there. But you can order just replacementr canopies which are retrofitted with custom lighting schemes. Probably best if you give them a call - the site is a little confusing.

nice looking tank.
i recently purchased a jbj deluxe 12 gallon nano tank myself . this will be my first attempt to set up a reef tank. i've actually been kinda a f.o. person for almost 25 years now ........arghhhhh imagine that ?
really like your arrangement of live rock - seems better than my idea anyway . i'd hate to rearange mine now that i'm starting to get a little growth starting up.

Great looking tank. The aquascape looks pretty unique. I only hope the caulerpa doesn't go sexual on you. If it wasn't so invasive and had the threat of going sexual I'd put it in my tank for aesthetic purposes any day.

To greatly reduce the chances of it going sexual, all you need to do is regularly prune it and be careful about the way you do prune it.

Soory it took so long to get back to you. Apparently according to some sources, caulerpa will go sexual after an injury unless it's allowed time to make a "wound plug". The wound plug concept basically just means that when caulerpa is pruned it should be done slowly with slow gentle pressure applied to the individual stalk one is trying to cut befoure just severing it. So instead of just ripping it out you should gently pinch each individual runner and slowly apply pressure for a few seconds before allowing the stalk to detach from the remainder. That's what I always do and I've never had caulerpa go sexual on me. Maybe that's all bloney but it has worked for me.... :notsure:

fmelindy,
I love your tank. I am in the process of "saving" for a jbj 12 DX, and I love your lighting. What lights did you use, and what kind of modifications did it take?
Also, for your filter, do you have the carbon or did you replace the carbon with some LR? What are some specs?
LR - ?
LS - ?
When I do my tank I want to do it right, and you look like the one that did do it right, AWESOME JOB.
One last thing, are you using a replacement Maxi PH?

Thanks for the compliment. I got my tank from nanocustoms.com and it was all set up when I received it with 96 watts of PC lighting.

I left everything the way it was in the filter compartment but I was thinking replacing the carbon and ceramic rings in the middle chamber with live rock rubble.
LR - ? 20 lbs fiji LR
LS - ? just covered the bottom with Caribsea aragonite (not live) to a depth of about 2 inches.

Thanks a lot. My pleasure to be able to share with you guys! Anymore questions, just ask...

Yes, it is 150 gph minijet.
Let me know if you need any other details and thanks for all your kind words!

Just a few more Q's :)
I was checking out NanoCustoms.com and noticed they have quite a few 12G DX Moddified Versions..
Which did you get and have you had any problems with water temperature?
These hoods, are all confusing.. *confused*

Temp hasn't been a problem. I got the 3.24 version, I believe it's called. I've been thinking about getting the additional 70W MH retro system I saw on nanotuners and putting that in there as well (somehow).
