picasso trigger

I don't have a SW tank but when I move my FW inhabitants into their new tank I will have my 125 (footprint : 6 ft x 18 in) and I am trying to figure out what to do with it. One of my thoughts was a picasso with a powderblue or brown tang? Would that work? Could I have any other fish? Really I LOVE the picasso, so if that is all that would work that is A-OK. I wouldn't get the tang until my tank was well established - I would be safe with a FOWLR, correct? Also - cleaners for a tank with those two fish? Any other thoughts? This is not for awhile, but I like to do my research so when the time comes I can make my decision! Do either of these fish need anything special ? Thank you! I will continue to look up the fish online but a lot of the time asking people who have them or have experience can get you better info than some random website! Also it says min tank for both these fish is 75 gals - but IME min. tank isn't well - always reliable. SO in REALITY how big of a tank do these fish need? TIA!

Those fish should be fine together. You can even put a few others in there. A Saltwater tank requires a lot of filtration. For a 125 you'll need about 150 lbs. of Live Rock and a good protein skimmer. You'll also want some powerheads, I'd suggest 2 Koralia 4's(1 on left, 1 on right)and a Koralia 2(center). Other then that, nothing special. You might want to add a sump to hide your equipment, like any heaters and the protein skimmer. Also an RO/DI unit to help process the water prior to putting it in your tank as the treatment chemicals used for freshwater isn't usually enough for SW. Hope you don't mind spending money, I'd tentatively plan on it being around $1500 for skimmer, powerheads, ro/di, substrate, and live rock.

I plan on saving for it - as I have awhile before I get going. I am already going to have 2 or 3 powerheads for my FW (doing a planted river tank) and I know about all the filtration (I will eventually have 10x/hr {about 1200 gph in THIS tank} filtration on my FW and I should aim for a bit more than that for SW, no? how MUCH more though? ) I will look into RO/DI and a skimmer as I do not do that for my FW, obviously. Thanks for the help - I am open to any more suggestions!

10x is enough for a Fowlr, i have more because I like to have strong flow everywhere to help prevent Cyanobacteria from forming. The Tang also would prefer a lot of flow. 2 Koralia 4's alone is 2500GPH of flow.

Heres a Q - on my FW tank I will be adding sponges to my powerheads (doing a river tank manifold) as extra filtration - can you do that for a SW or no?

You could, but I dont think it would offer much benefit. The Live Rock, Substrate, and Skimmer should provide all the filtration you need. I would rather not restrict the flow of the powerhead.

Cool - sounds good... I will continue to do research, ask Q's and wish I were rich so I could do it all RIGHT now! LOL
