Picked up my LR and WOW!!!!

I just got my live rock yesterday from tampa bay saltwater. Holy cow....this is absoluty the best looking live rock i have ever seen, coraline encrusted, so many sponges, 2 large brain coral, assorted other small corals, 4-5 clams about 2-3inches each. Incredible. Also the best place i have delt with. The guy literally called me up and was going diving the next day and asked me exactly what i wanted. He called me back the next day, told me what he had gotten me, shipped it and that night it was in my tank. I love it. If someone can tell me how to post pictures, i will put some on here.

when you post a reply , after the options secton there is an atatch file box, you just have to have the pics saved to your comp, and then find them and select them in this area! good luck

they have 3 types i think, i got what they call boat run which is a mix of rock with hard corals on it and rock with what they say has the most life on it. It was $5 a pound which wasnt bad cosidering i paid 5/lb for a piece at my lfs and it didnt have nearly the life. That piece looks like base rock now compared to this. Ill post pics tonight. I had it sent to a local airport and just picked it up at the cargo center, saved 220 dollars in shipping compared to fedex. This was extremely easy and convenient if you live near an airport.

This is just out of curiosity really, but when you buy LR from your LFS is it just mined off the sea floor? If so is it replaced somehow or is endangering ever a problem?
I dont know much about LR as you can probably gather just know its good!:p

most live rock that we as hobbiests receive in the trade is merely rubble....chunks of rock that wre once livign corals but were broken offf due to natural occurances, such as hurricanes, tropical storms, wind, waves, etc. however there are still places that mine live rock, meaning that they destroy coral heads to sell the rock to aquarists. at the same time there are lots of people who are selling aquacultured rock, such as the guys from Tampa BAy SW. they purchase dry lace rock, dump it in the ocean, leave it for several years, then come back and harvest it later. check out their site, its kinfa interesting about all the stuff they had to go through!
