In fact, in this case, the naso probably had a compromised immune system because of the lack of space, plus being in such a small area with 2 other tangs - one of which gets territorial. The compromised immune system keeps the fish from having the ability to fight off the ich parasites, and it eventually dies. In fact, I would be willing to bet that the remaining two fish will, at some point, develop ich and die as well. Also, if you start out with a baby blue hippo, it will some day be an adult blue hippo, which can get up to 12 inches in length, and therefore it will be 1/4 the length of the tank. That doesn't sound too appealing to me.

At any rate, the only way I would suggest anyone getting a baby blue hippo is if they plan on upgrading their tank to something 125 gallons or larger within the next year or two.
I don't suggest anyone getting a tang unless they are willing to upgrade down the road. Me for instance, I have two tangs in my 55 which I got them at a young age and had both of them for over 2 years going on 3. It's a Naso and a Yellow. Naso are slow growers, he's only grown maybe 1 inch or so since I've had him, but he's very very fat thou.....In my 90 I have a Hippo Tang that I got about the size of a old half dollar which it doubled it's size over a year later. With this coming year, a new tank is heading here soon...
Did I mention that my Naso eats off my hands???

i just picked up a blue hippo for my 55 its 1in!! and was 30 bucks at my LFS!! free after i returned my whitespotted puffer. and an upgrade is in the works but i prolly still have a solid year maybe more. but i would suggest a coral beauty. i didnt like any of the pics i have seen till i saw one in person the outlines of their fins are like electric blue, swim like crazy very personable. i highly recomend it for a 55g setup.

I love that. My Goldflake has his own tank corner he rushes to if he sees me coming. He'll take flake from my fingers and if I'm feeding mysis or brine he'll try to wrap his lips around the end of the turkey baster as if it was his mother. I can feel him applying pressure up the length of the baster.
I once paused to take a phone call before I opened the tank He got impatient with me and started trying to open the hinged glass tank top by butting it.
