pico plans

Ok, here's the plan: Get one of those 2.5 gallon tanks at you-know-where and have a piece of acrylic cut to go in the corner, like in the pics below. Then run a piece of clear flexible tubing into the corner space and up over the edge of the tank, siphoning down to a rubbermaid fuge. Then have a maxi jet for the return, using the same kind of tubing. A Y-coupler would split the return, and I'd clip the two returns to the back edge for 2 directional returns. Besides the fact that it's a 2.5 gal tank, is there any reason that this wouldn't work?

not if I didn't stick the hose all the way down into the corner, but only about 3/4" below the surface. Then it would break siphon and there just wouldn't be any flow.

Alright, I thought you were planing on haveing it all the way in. It would still flod the other way if the power went out though. When it came on all the sump water would be pumped up, and the kind of overflow your talking about wouldent restart itself.

you're right, but don't all our tanks depend on power anyway? It's not like I'll have a lot of money invested in it and it's not a lot of water to clean up if it overflows. I'm ok with the risk. Anything else?

oh yeah, I plan on using two regular socket 10watt pc lights, 50/50. I'm going to have a bunch of tiny leather frags, zoos, and mushrooms. No fish, but a couple really small shrimp. Will I be ok w/o a skimmer?
