My favorite and most beloved fish, my bicolor blenny, has been nipped (badly) by my yellowfin fairy wrasse.
I got my fairy wrasse about two weeks ago. For the first 4 days, he hid in the rocks in the back and didn't even come out to eat. Once he got used to the tank, he came out and seemed to get along with my other tank inhabitants; percula clown, bicolor blenny and scooter blenny (*eats prepared foods! Yesterday, I noticed that the wrasse would swish by and nip at the side of my blenny while my blenny was busy doing his usual (swimming around looking for algae, minding his own business) The blenny just stayed still and didn't seem one bit intimidated by this.
This morning, I come into my office and see my blenny sitting in his favorite place and I did a double take... he had all of these white spots on him in the exact places where the wrasse had been nipping at him the day before. I wanted to give the wrasse the benefit of the doubt and thought that yesterday's incident may have been an isolated event and it wouldn't happen again, or that my blenny got freaked out by him and would stay away from him. Nope! The blenny acts normal and goes about his usual business and when the wrasse sees him and swims close by, he'll display himself and go after the blenny. The blenny isn't afraid of him and stays still for a moment and then goes about his business. I saw this and said "That's it!" the wrasse has to go! I tried to entice him with food and net him, but he's too quick and smart for that.
I thought that after 45 minutes of me trying to catch him, he might figure out that he's in trouble and might even attempt to behave. Nope! Still does the same thing.
What in the world do I do?? How do I catch this meanie?? What do I do with my blenny?? He's my little baby and I would be devastated if this wrasse killed him or harrassed him to the point where he died. But then again, the blenny doesn't seem afraid of him at all; I figured that if he was freaked out enough with the wrasse, he would just stay in his little hole, but no, he still does his daily business.
Take a look at the pics... will this heal on its own? Do I need to dose with anything to help it heal? Why is this area white? Is it because scales are missing? Is this like a "bruise" on a fish?
I know, lots of questions... I am just heartbroken over this. My poor little blenny. He's such a sweetheart. Doesn't bother anyone or anything.
another shot...
The other side of him is fine, no marks at all:
The meanie
my sweet blenny in happier times
Can anyone help??
