Well since you mention it I am in the middle of building a stand and canopy. Actually my tank has a stand and it is just 2x4's so I am making more of a cover than a stand. I am very partial to oak so I used a sheet of oak plywood. I cut it last weekend and stained it this week. I tried to put it together yesterday but the oak is too hard for my brad nailer. So I will have to drill some holes first. I will post some pictures if it turns out good.
Since I do not know anything about you I will give you the basic advice. As far as advice for building a stand. Draw it out first. Prior planning prevents pi$$ poor performance. Also draw out how you are going cut your wood. Even though you may have the square footage of wood, if you do not cut it right you will have to get more. Then there is the ever popular, measure twice and cut once.

Jester, I looked at your website , nice and you've got good friends. Your hard work paid off, it's awesome. Looks like what was going on around here last weekend just moving the 55 and then tiling the living room floor. I have some more questions for you. Since that tank is not reef ready what are you going to use for filtration? Are you going to do a refugium and sump or what?
Slick yours gives me ideas for one in the bedroom:) better not spring that on the hubby yet though. He's got enough to think about with the 125
