I'm always up for a good deal on lights....

mind sending over the link?
you got mail, ok let me look at your tank im at work right now and had to run out to the press room to make sure the paper was running correctly with right pages
thanks for the link but yikes! I have dealt with these people before. They are not the best IMO.... sent me a PC fixture with 4 lights...well by the time it got to me it was a fixture full of smashed glass. I called them and they apparently they don't do any type of telephone customer service. I had to send them an e-mail, I waited 4 days and heard no response. I called them back and told them send me new lights or I want a full refund on my fixture. They said send us money for the new bulbs those were a free item we won't replace them for free because they were a promotional item. I told the guy I wanted a full refund....and again they told me send an e-mail...I sent an e-mail and alas I got a refund number, shipped the fixture back to them smashed bulbs intact. I waited nearly two weeks and heard nothing I called them again last week and just finally got my money back today. These people IMHO do not run a very good business... certainly not the way I would run my business. I ended up buying a T5 fixture from another site got the bulb's smashed (my UPS man hates me!) I had brand new Geissman (sp?) bulb's in 1 day. Also the fixture from the other company had no cooling and my T5's fan is always kickin out a ton of heat.....cooling fan is a necessity. Just my experiences with the aforementioned company.
When the subject of lights come up , we are all like moths.....
you see my little 65?, its under MH. I had a crapload of those 4 ft t5s I sold and people seem to like them but I just know MH and know the results from them so while t5 can be good, I stick to what I KNOW works.
I have heard similar about them. but the 529 w/free shipping for the 60"er is still tempting. I will probably just wind up building a retro for the new tank. I hate nothing worse then dealing with shysty companies.
bulbs cost more than the fixture. The bulbs that come with cheapo units are not worth having over a tank if its corals. Fish dont care bt reefs its ALL about the bulbs.
damn now im doubting this i mean im still gonna try it, and see what diff it makes probbly run it alongside my PC see what diff that makes, hail may just buy the regulars from my LFS for the orig price of $395
Tek T5's make PC's look terrible. What size tank are they going over? I would say the 6x54 Unit is a good choice for a decent sized tank. Can grow generally anything. No problem growing SPS . Just keep them in the upper half. If you go with the T5's consider going with giesemanns and a right bulb combo.
i have a 80 gallon which requires the 48 in fixture my lfs was trying to sell me a set of 4bulbs (54w) he says its the intensity of the light that matters
I am confused..you said you are getting a Tek5...What is that. TEK only makes a 4,6,8 bulb for 48" Aquatinics makes a 5bulb T5 light...
are you getting a Tek Light with the 4bulb system. If so where are you getting that for $99
Also this is what i would say for bulbs
Pure Actinic - Giesemann
Blue Plus - ATI
Aquablue - ATI
Pure Actinic - Giesemann
its not. i know who your talking about. is it aquat

s? If so i bought t5 from them and within 2 months the entire fixture caught on fire! It was the 48 inch fixture also. You must realize being cheap in this hobby comes back to bite you and you will end up paying more
also that light doesint have individual reflectors. t5 with no indiv. reflectors is like a little above pc's. but if it has them theyre just like mh's. they boost telight output by 300%!

Shouldnt put down an entire thing for your one misfortune.

yes thats because they changed the whole oddsea metal halide light because of the repeated complaints against fires. it had a magnetic ballast but they swithced it to a electronic. Google oddysea lights and you will see that there are MANY different people with problems with them. also these lights are not ul approved. these are 2 reasons why they are so cheap. just letting you know, so that you wont make the same mistake i did. they also dont have individual reflectors.
I have done ALOT of research and tehre is a 50page thread on this light over at Reefcentral and we all see that the light is good for the money.
I changed out my bulbs for good ones. and Ordering my Coralvue 250 ballast friday. Still puts me $300 under any light with the same setup. Then i am probably going to replace the PC lights with T5HO. so it will be a MH and T5 light. Personally the light is a good platform to start with and u can mod it how you want and still be well under the cost of anyone else. Plus it helps you break up the cost of it all.
