I was at the LFS yesterday, and ran across a feather duster for $10, however I was looking through their invert book and it says that most dusters will only live about 6 months to a year, is this true with this little addition?

My wife loves Dusters and yes their life span in our tanks, at least for me is a year or so at the most, even with spot feedings .....Once in a while longer......Here is one of her prettier ones just to see......

Very pretty, I just find it hard to spend money on something that is doomed to die off in the tank though...

At least Dusters are cheap..... Now think about all the fish and corals people have lost over time and what heir cost was. Far too many folks try to keep things that should not be in their tanks in the first place.
But you have a good outlook in one way. Thinking of our tanks as a refuge for our animals instead of a "testing place" to see id one can keep things alive is a good way to approach the hobby.

I've never had one live longer than 6-8 months... $10 isn't bad, my LFS is out of their minds and charges like $30 for something that will only live a year at best...

Well depending on which LFS I go to depends on the pricing as well, this one that I am talking about $10-$30 is normal; depending on what species I am looking at the Hawaiian are more expensive that this little pink thing, it is only about 1in across.

most feather dusters lifespan is about 2 years.... since you dont know how old your duster ios when you buy it it could last anywhere from six months to about a year and a half. its very seldom feathers live beyond two years even in a species dedicated tank.

I guess it is just the luck of the draw then.
