pink pincushin urchin?

I think it is a hit or miss issue with urchins I have read alot of info about them eating coraline and their reefsafeness descriptions are monitor with corals. I have heard the Pencil is worse than most but if you have alot of good growth that you like than I would say don't bother. But since it is the wife wanting the urchin you may be able to monitor it and pull it off your rocks when it goes on.
Good Luck and wait for more advice as I have never kept an urchin in with my LR

I have 3 pencil urchins in my 125 and they don't even touch the coralline. But the tank has also been up for 12 years, and it has plenty of other forms of algae growing in there.
I'd say urchins vary, some will much on it some won't.

Mine mows down my corraline but he's in a smaller tank with only about 40lbs of LR and I don't dose Ca in that tank because it's only a couple of softies. I think it would be less noticable in a larger system.
