pistol shrimp & goby pair?

should you buy them as a pair or can you try it on your own?
also what types of goby's can this work w? i saw a pink zebra type looking goby, and i would love to see him become a pair w/ a pistol shrimp if possible.

I bought a pink and blue goby and a caribbean pistol shrimp off this site about a month ago and so far they haven't paired up.

I have had wonderful luck with goby and pistol pairings. I currently have pairs in 2 of my tanks. In one tank I had the pistol first, then added apink spotted shrimp goby. They paired withi a couple of days. In a second tank I added a Yasha Hashe goby first followed by the pistol and again they were together within 48 hours. I then added a second 'non-shrimp" goby and he fought with Mr. Yasha over the shrimp. Go figure. :scared: Needless to say they were seperated and now there are 3 tanks in my house. :hilarious
Love the gobies, love shrimp!! happy pairing- and if they never make friends it wouldn't be so terrible since they are still fun to watch on their own.

My yellow watchman and tiger pistol shrimp paired up and I added them a month apart. The watchman has been scared into the overflow box and I think the pistol is looking for him because he is popping up all over the place.

The Yasha Hashe and pistol shrimp are probably the best choice

My pistols stay under rocks and I have never seen the watchman mess with anything. He just ...well...watches all day long. Now a pistol shrimp will dig out big piles of sand so they can cover up your corals on the bottom. I have that happen once but if it happens regulary, that would be a problem.

Many pistol shrimp will grab any small frags or feather dusters and drag them into their home. I find keeping plenty of shells and rubble rock in the tank to helps to keep them busy and away from small zoanthid frags etc..

yep, they live together in the same hole and both benefit from it. this relationship is what we call a mutualistic symbiosis.

i added a tiger watchman probably 2 months after my pistol, and they never paired up. my jawfish seem to hang out the same place he does now... is it possible they paired?

I have a pink spot goby and a blue spot watchmangoby and they are both paired up with tiger pistols I never see them hardly just ever once in a while. ***) It took about a a month for them each to pair up now my tank sound like a pop-corn machine a night.
