I believe I have some how, acquired a pistol shrimp.
I was disturbed several days ago while watching TV, by a loud popping noise emanating from the aquarium.
It was difficult to ascertain as it was intermittent and gone for great periods of time.
Then yesterday, I noted an unusual, orange, movement in the tank below my rocks and after some patient waiting, I was rewarded with the appearance of a shrimplike fellow, approximately 1" long, orange in color with one huge claw and one small one.
He stays busy shifting the coral rubble beneath the rocks and has two or three openings that he occasionally appears at.
I'm trying to get a better pic but this guy is exceptionally shy.
Can anybody identify this guy from my limited pics?
I have also, acquired some new entity within the rocks of the aquarium on he other end.
This appears to be a 3 sq inch, pale green, foam like material secured to the rock with volcanic like openings to the rock surface.
No life has yet been observed within this construction.
Any one have any ideas what it might be?
