hey all!
i have a 29 gallon tank with a crushed coral substrate, it is diffucult to say how many inches because it is already uneven. ;-). In it i have a small snowflake eel who will be sent over to my larger tank soon, a valentini puffer, and an orange spotted dimond goby. I wouldlike to get a pistol shirmp to hopefully go along with my goby. Does anyone have any information on these buggers? Would you recomend it? what are the drawbacks? thanks!

i was afraid of that. my puffer is a pretty peaceful guy, but i figured since he is still small, and a pistol shrimp get on the bulky side, it might work out. maybe ill try with a pepermint shrimp first, and see how he treats that.

Aside from the puffer issue I really enjoy my pistol shrimp in my 29 gallon, but mostly because he is always making new tunnels and he comes out at feeding time. If you have a possible predator your shrimp would probably stay pretty skittish and you wouldn't see much of it. Mine is starting to figure out nobody is after him in my tank.

I have had my pistol shrimp about 6 weeks and I have only seen him twice:( There was a hermit crab near his layer and he keeped poping out and making that "poping" sound it was neat. I have a goby but I dont think they have hooked up.

Depending on the size of your gobi, a Randells pistol shrimp would be a good choice. However, if your goby is more than 2 in. long the Randell will be too small to build a big enough burrow.
