Placing before....??

I have 2 clams currently in my tank, which are on my sand bed. I would like to get a few clams to place also on my rocks. But.. i dont know if i should place a rock under the clam while it is on the sand, and when it gets attached i move it, with the rock, on top of another rock.. or do i simply place the clam on my rockwork, without letting it attach to a smaller rock first?
Here is a pic i got from another site, which shows a brown maxima on rocks. How could he have got the maxima to stay on like that?
Thanks

Cool!
But can i place him on a rock that is in a bit of an angle? The rock is flat.. but in a little angle. Maby placing a rock, to hold the place up, then letting it go?

Mine managed to slide forward about 1 inch. Even though I moved him back, everyday, and still do. So if your rock is at an angle, make sure he has room to slide forward without falling off. And as far as propping a rock in front of him, that's a good idea if you leave that rock there. I don't think whatever attaches to the rock is strong enough to support the weight of the clam if it slides forward. Is this making sence? I got one eye on what I am writing, and one on these rotten kids!! LOL

Some clams need rocks like a maxima & some stay on the sand like a derasa. I think it's croceas that bury into solid rock (calcium carbonate rock, that is). You can get maximas to attach to small rocks or half shells then you can place the whole thing on the sand, if that's where you want them. Clams that attach need to in order to protect their byssal gland from parasites. You just need to figure out what your clam is going to want to do & then try to manipulate that behavior to suit your needs.

Thanks alot!
I will see, if i can get it to attach to a small, flat peice of LR, and then i will try placing it on the rockwork.
