Hey guys,
Ive been looking at some plate coral. (heliofungia actiniformis) and havent seen a whole lot of info about them. Does anyone have experience good or bad with these?
I like the LPS 'look' of a coral that resembles an anemone... its the next best thing. Im staying away from anemones.

heres a plate coral for example- I cut off the name of the site it came from so its a little 'cropped looking' lol

they r fairly easy to tk care of. just mk sure u put them on a soft substrate bc their underside is sensitive. the short tentacle version will move a lot. they need to be fed once a week. they do sting other corals.

do I have to worry about my goby trying to bury this thing? he tries to bury my gorgonian daily and its 6" tall.
What type of lighting? Is pcs not strong enough? Im thinking to grab a MH pendant anyways but what do you think.

I have a long tenticle and short tenticle, oh and a baby hitchiker, I think is a long tenticle. I have heard the long tenticle plates are not as hardy. They need decent lighting and all 3 of mine like to be spot fed.

I had to get rid of my heliofungia because my twinspot goby wouldn't leave it alone. He didn't bury it, he burrowed under it. The coral was pretty peeved, so I had to find it another home where it could be happy (and without a goby!)
Also, as a sidenote, heliofungia don't tend to live too long in captivity. Usually only about a year or so.

Heliofungia actiniformis is '' THE '' long tentical plate and as said, most dont do well in aquariums for long term....best placed on the sand in low currents.

yes.. i was only inquiring about actiniformis/long tentacle. I dont want a regular fungia thats why i put the full name and a pic.

Short tentacles are much more hardy. I've had a purple one for years now. I love to spot feed him pieces of silversides, cyclopeeze, mysis, anything he'll eat. Moderate, indirect flow is best to help keep the sand off. I'd recommend something better than PC since he'll be on the bottom where the PAR isn't as high, but should be fine anyway. These are cool corals.
