rookie26, WELCOME to the board. :cheer: Glad you are here.
You are going to get many anwers. As in any hobby each person has a way of doing things that are comfortable to that person.
A few questions for you:
*Your location is Mason, in Texas?* Nothing to do with your setup.
How long have you had your tank set up?
What type of filters are you using?
What type of water did you use?
Did you rinse sand before putting in?(Not wash)
As far as the cc. I have to say a big no. IMO, cc has a lot of little areas that debris can get caught in and cause a really big nitrate problem. As where lr you can blow off debris with a turkey baster or air hose. I've used both in different tanks and I just wasn't as pleased with the cc as I was with the sand. I have a full bag, I'm trying to sell or trade.

So I guess that means you don't live right outside of Brady which is the heart of Texas.
Ok tank talk. We have a lot of friends in South Texas that use play sand and swear by it. I wonder if the PHs are keeping it stirred up too much for it to settle? Do you have lr in your tank yet? I put in a really light weight sand, very fine, and my tank looked like it was in the middle of a dust bowl. It took about a 2 weeks for it to settle. I wish I had a magic formula but I don't. I am oerlooking something. I am so glad this board has active members becasue there will be ppl who have used this that can give you answers.
