Try the white balance /color temp chart in the manual (in the Appendix) - You can select K and choose the color temp -- from 2,500 - 9,900. If your lighting is close to 10,000K that may get you right where you want to be.

WOW! Those look amazing!
FWIW. Here's that Photoshop color correction trick.
When taking a photo, make sure there is something in the shot that is neutral gray. Medium gray works best. I find a left over MaxiJet part works well.
Take a shot, remove the gray piece and take another shot. (Its best to shoot in manual mode. Sorry)
Now you should have at least two shots. One with something neutral gray in it and one without.
Bring both shots into Photoshop. With the one with the gray part in it, make a new levels or curves Adjustment Layer. Select the middle eyedropper.

Then click on the gray area of the photo. You should see the colors balance changing. You may have to click on a few different areas to get it right. Click OK.
Now select that Adjustment Layer from the Layers panel and drag it over to the photo that doesn't have the gray in it.
Voila
BTW, Photoshop Elements does just about everything Photoshop does for only $90.00. (assuming you are not doing any high-end print work)

Thanks, I'm going to finally start exploring the camera and learning what each setting is and how it all works, I'm just now getting over taking reckless pictures of anything and everything, as the newness of the camera is wearing off............I'm now starting to understand more of the settings, this is a series tonight with one side was under 20k and the other 14k, same coral, just moved from side to side in the same tank. Also played around with WB and a lot of guessing...LOL
.
There's about 80 pics in this series that I just took, here are some of the more interesting, lots of planning went into this. Scrubbed the glass on inside yesterday and again right before I started. All pumps off, fan off, glass clean, and tripod.

I see you were using VR lens for the pictures. VR 55-200mm F/4-5.6 G and VR 105mm F/2.8 G...
Is the VR 105mm F/2.8 G in the picture info the Nikon Telephoto AF Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR (Vibration Reduction) Autofocus Lens?
Either way nice lens!!!

Yes,....I originally ordered just the basic d40 kit which had the 18-55lens thats "just" ok....Then decided to get the 55-200mm AF-S VR which is an incredible, all around lens, but a little tricky to use on a marine tank due to minimum focal length
.
the 105mm AF-S VR Macro (true macro - not a zoom) was a total splurge as the lens cost more than the camera, total pain to get clean images as I'm still using a $5.00 tripod
and need to get a Macro rail or something a little more serious for stablitie as just a slight movement will cause serious image quality problems, depth of field on this lens is something I'm still learning. Very sensitive lens and you almost "have" to stage the photos in order to get the correct shot, I think I'm going to look into some other lens.

The sunset is really beginning to get it's orange back! The micro eats like a pig, and that acro colony you sent is beginning to get insane looking! It's polyp extension is crazy long, and it' turning a nice peachish orange color! Couldn't be happier, Jim. Thanks again!
Oh and niec new shots too, you're getting the hang of this!! That blasto is very nice, I need to get a phew polyps of that morph as I've always liked it a lot.

I just noticed that I finally have 3 new babies on this colony!...This blasto is very hardy IMO, a little sensative to placement with respect to color and I've moved it around the tank a few times. Seems to like the 14k's much better as the color is turing more red as opposed to the pinkish orange.....
.
Next thread will be a nice acro that I've not hacked up or fragged simply because it's got such a great shape, I'm going to let it grow out and not frag it

Change it to the timer and reduce the standard 20 sec to 2. That way when you press the shutter button you can take your hands off the camera. This may help keep your camera movement down on slow shutter speeds.
