OK...for 3 days now everytime my husband goes to play his game online, he gets a message from Playstation saying they are having issues and you can not play online at this time
is everyone else having this issue????? Isn't it odd for a LARGE network like playstation to be down this long?

Yeah, they have been down. They got hacked but are not saying much about it. No ETA as to when they will be back up either the last I heard.

Yea, down for me today as well. Was doing okay for a bit after Sony got hacked a couple weeks ago. Was just racing GT5 online a few days ago without issue. But "under going maintenance" currently.... Extremely annoying as the "online dealer" for GT5 is well, only available if you're signed in... And that's were the cool cars are. Missed out on a Cizeta V16T....

Sony pressed charges against a hacker that hacked them a few months ago. A hacker clan has declared war on Sony and is currently winning. Not sure which clan it is

Started playing more recently. Before it was just me and my buddy racing just a few select places (nascar/oval, ZR1s/Cote D'Azur, and Pajero Raid Rally/Nordwand K Trail). Haven't got a around to building the wheel rig yet. Been mostly busy in the free time with my other hobby, nitro r/c cars (1/8th buggies specifically). Racing GT5 has definitely been a decent help though, not so much from car control, but learning to break down tracks into sections, learning tracks quicker, esp. if you're racing GT5 without the driving line
.
Got a bit to do though. The TV stand isn't gonna work, too many things and not enough shelves (working NES isn't pictured). But getting there!

Sony is now saying they are rebuilding their network to prevent future attacks. I wouldn't be surprised if it stays down another 5 days... aarrrrrrgh!
Hooked on GT5 right now, with the server being down I've been pounding away at the endurance races...
You can still access Netflix, when it asks you to sign in, try it, then click on the Netflix icon, it will probably ask you to sign in again, then after that it will log into Netflix with no problems.

Sony has announced today they lost all members personal info. They are still not sure if they lost the credit card info yet. Just great

My opinion may be a little skewed, as I really only play 3 console games, all of which are console exclusive, Halo, Forza, and GT5, so I really don't have preference for XBL or PSN, withholding the obviously fact that XBL is working right now, PSN isn't....
I would like to say I couldn't live without either console, but the fact is my 360 finally gave up to the red-ring-of-death a couple months ago, and I haven't replaced it. Just no desire at the moment, with Halo tapering off, and GT5 being preferred over Forza 3. When Forza 4 drops this Fall, definitely will have a new 360 (hint to Microsoft, a special FM4/360 bundle would be awesome). To the average consumer, the Blu-Ray advantage to PS3 over 360, is what ultimately makes their decision, IMHO

Go this email today:
Valued PlayStation(R)Network/Qriocity Customer:
We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011,
certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account
information was compromised in connection with an illegal and
unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this
intrusion, we have:
1) Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full
and complete investigation into what happened; and
3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our
network infrastructure by rebuilding our system to provide you
with greater protection of your personal information.
We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill
as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and
efficiently as practicable.
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident,
we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following
information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country,
email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login,
and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data,
including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip),
and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may
have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your
dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have
been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit
card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have
provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity,
out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit
card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have
been obtained.
For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email,
telephone and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive
information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email,
asking for your credit card number, social security number or other
personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information,
you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation
Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that
you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation
Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or
accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them as well.
To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss, we
encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements and
to monitor your credit reports. We are providing the following information
for those who wish to consider it:
- U.S. residents are entitled under U.S. law to one free credit report annually
from each of the three major credit bureaus. To order your free credit report,
visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call toll-free (877) 322-8228.
- We have also provided names and contact information for the three major U.S.
credit bureaus below. At no charge, U.S. residents can have these credit bureaus
place a "fraud alert" on your file that alerts creditors to take additional steps
to verify your identity prior to granting credit in your name. This service can
make it more difficult for someone to get credit in your name. Note, however,
that because it tells creditors to follow certain procedures to protect you,
it also may delay your ability to obtain credit while the agency verifies your
identity. As soon as one credit bureau confirms your fraud alert, the others
are notified to place fraud alerts on your file. Should you wish to place a
fraud alert, or should you have any questions regarding your credit report,
please contact any one of the agencies listed below:
Experian: 888-397-3742; www.experian.com; P.O. Box 9532, Allen, TX 75013
Equifax: 800-525-6285; www.equifax.com; P.O. Box 740241, Atlanta, GA 30374-0241
TransUnion: 800-680-7289; www.transunion.com; Fraud Victim Assistance Division,
P.O. Box 6790, Fullerton, CA 92834-6790
- You may wish to visit the website of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission at
www.consumer.gov/idtheft or reach the FTC at 1-877-382-4357 or 600 Pennsylvania
Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20580 for further information about how to protect
yourself from identity theft. Your state Attorney General may also have advice
on preventing identity theft, and you should report instances of known or
suspected identity theft to law enforcement, your State Attorney General,
and the FTC. For North Carolina residents, the Attorney General can be
contacted at 9001 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-9001; telephone
(877) 566-7226; or www.ncdoj.gov. For Maryland residents, the Attorney
General can be contacted at 200 St. Paul Place, 16th Floor, Baltimore, MD 21202;
telephone: (888) 743-0023; or www.oag.state.md.us.
We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of this
incident, and we regret any inconvenience. Our teams are working around the
clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as possible. Sony takes
information protection very seriously and will continue to work to ensure that
additional measures are taken to protect personally identifiable information.
Providing quality and secure entertainment services to our customers is
our utmost priority. Please contact us at 1-800-345-7669 should you have any
additional questions.
Sincerely,
Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment

I KNEW I like xbox for a reason...besides the fact that Sony was COMPLETELY out of their tree when they thought peeps were just going to pony up $700 for their console.
The only reason I bought a PS3 is to play blue ray discs...everything else is "xbox 360".
Lois,
Guys need to "kill something" on those days where you come home after desperately needing to choke some of the jerks we deal with. I'm a FPS fan, for sure...just ask Renee. BTW, the new zombie game on the new Black Ops map pack is frickin' AWESOME!

Yeah they were a bit off their rocker thinking that the average gamer was willing to drop that kinda cash on a gaming machine. Granted the ps3 is an all around more powerfull machine pluss the blu-ray player. Let us not forget how many times xbox and personal accounts have already been hacked over the years. Sony was the more secure network untill recently and probably will be again once they get it going.

I'm quite willing to bet there are a whole bunch more people, perhaps not in quantity, but rather in severity, that are more angry about their 360's RROD'ing on them, then people would ever be about PSN going down. Buy a PS3 and put up with the network issues, or buy a 360 and put up with the hardware issues. About the $700, let's not forget exactly what the differences with the PS3 and 360 were then, built-in wifi, more GB's, PS3's actually had HDMI unlike early 360's etc...
The bottomline is that no one really could live with just one console. Each has propriety games that currently exceed their rival. GT5 and Halo, for instance.
