I think that people who consider themselves middle of the road and support Obama haven't really thought this through.
Obama has a left wing voting record. Nancy Pelosi has a left wing voting record. Harry Reed just does as he's told and I really am not sure who is pulling his strings but the Democrat power base in the Senate is pretty liberal, not as far to the left as Pelosi but out there just the same. Obama is far enough to the left that the Democrat socialists of America have supported him since his first run for public office as have numerous self proclaimed marxists and assorted kooks. If Obama gets elected you will see a extreme shift to the left in US policy because there will be nothing to keep him or the congress in check.
Even if McCain gets elected the country is going to move to the left. With Democrat control of both houses of congress the country is going to get pulled to the left like it or not even if we elected a president that was a true conservative. Dirty little secret is outside of fiscal issues McCain doesn't hold a whole lot of conservative positions outside of abortion. He took the liberal position on immigration, campaign finance, education etc. Even if McCain tipped over dead the day after the election and Sarah Palin came in as president we would shift to the left. there is only so much a president can do to push an agenda when they are opposed by the whole congress.
