About 1/2 way down in the middle of the page is a counter by CNN.COM. I know this is an estimation but HOW it really made me think when I saw the numbers in front of me. Thought I would post incase anybody is interested.

Courage? Interesting to be sure but hardly courageous. There is a website dedicated solely to the leak, bpspillcounter.com I believe it is.

actually, I can't watch any of it anymore. It makes me crazy. This company let this get away from them for so many days, and now hurricanes coming down the pipe. The sea turtle nest don't even stand a chance. I got to witness a turtle nest hatch last summer, all 96 of them. I am a mommy of 96 turtles
Anyway this is terrible down to the simple sand. For years and years.

The turtle issue they can work around. It's things like the marshes and oyster beds we need to worry about most. There isn't a lot we can do about those but let nature take it's course which could be generations. I still wonder if a late season hurricane might not be a blessing in disguise if the leak is stopped by then. Seems to me it would wash the oil up on land beyond the beaches where it could be cleaned up easier. Maybe not, dunno.

yes, I said that..................down to even the sand. Simple sand. This will ooze from the sand, water, marshes, beds, reefs (whats left of them) etc for years and years to come. They aren't even cleaning what is coming up daily properly. This will be another half arse job done by a major wealthy compay controlling our governmt
We can't assume nature will take its course. A few years of no breeding/successful hatches/births could result in many many years of limited species. Birds, fish, turtles, dolphins etc. This will not end just because we don't see oil on our land.

There was an even bigger spill in the Gulf that hit Mexico and that recovered faster than expected. The government is overseeing the cleanup for whatever that is worth so hopefully we will have a similar experience.

That was the spill back in '79. The two key differences though are this. No Hurricanes that year and the oil amount of that spill doesn't even come close to comparing to 1/4 of what has been placed in the water now.

Ixtoc put 3.5 million barrels in the water. I don't believe the estimates have this that big yet. This is a faster spill but the other lasted 9 months. Not sure which is worse.
