Thats something I don't like to recommend, do so at your own risk of chemical warfare.

Thomas I have 2 bta in a 75, going to 125 next week. Didn't know I shouldn't have 2, should I take 1 back and trade? I haven't noticed them bothering each other and they are pretty close together

Yeah I didnt think so, what do you mean by chemical warfare? I mean I see it all the time at the lfs, I know thats different because they will be selling them soon but still. Oh also my bta moved last night while I was sleeping which is pretty cool :jumping: . One thing that isnt pretty cool is that he moved so he is attached uside down under a rock so no light really gets to him :scared: . I know that anemones really can handle there own, but would you recommend me keeping him there until he decides to move again? Oh sorry one more thing, I have a power head and I will usually keep this type of netting on the bottom so the BTA wont get sucked up, but before I went to sleep I decided to take it off, wow did I get scared when I didnt see the BTA anywhere when I woke up

I don't mean to step on this thread or jump in on any body's coversation, ..the chemical warfare he is talking about is other anemones attacking eachother with nematocysts, (stinging cells). They can deploy these through the water or direct contact, when threatened or capturing food. Yea the LFS crowd them all in one tank, and even different kinds sometimes, because they will be selling them. Hope this answers your question.

Yeah thats what I thought but wasnt 100% sure, because I thought they could send them through the water but didnt know. So are you saying they would kill eachother? One time I could have swore I heard that BTA's sometimes like to be close to eachother. Yes, this does help thanks. Have you heard of or seen BTA's upside down on a rock? Should I move him?

One can say for sure if they will kill eachother or live happy together. Stranger things have happened, chances are high they will battle for competition, it's a survival mechenism. There are alot of debates on this..authors of reef keeping, fish keeping books are still writing over this very subject.
I would leave him alone, he's still adjusting. if he continues to get worse I'd pull him out of the tank though & Take him back to the LFS. Get a book on anemones, as a reference guide..a good book will tell you behaviors, lighting, feeding, water conditions even the anatomy. He's shinking into darkness for a reason, you just have to find out why and fix it. Try the internet or local library, I have found lots of books on the subject.

well it has been about 2 weeks since I have got my anemone. Good news he has moved, bad news is the place he moved was onto a rock right underneath the powerhead :scared: . What should I do? Also what can I do to encourage the bta to split? Here is a updated pic. Tell me how he looks. Sorry I cant seem to resize this everytime I try it wont work!!

Hops - What kind of lights do you have. I had a anemone that looked just like yours on 5/7 at 7:55. The LFS never said a word about lighting. It was when I just started in the hobby. It never recovered and I had to pull it from the tank. I am happy to hear that yours is doing better.

I have two bulbs over my tank and it adds up to be about 3-4 watts per gallon. Is that what you were asking? Also this has nothing to do with anything, but it says your from upstate new york, I used to live in syracuse, are you anywhere close to there?

Yes, that's what I was asking. I ended up flushing my anemone so it wouldn't pollute my tank.
I'm not too far from Syracuse.

Oh really? You cannot tell from the pic because it just happend, but this is the first time the bta has actually had all of his tentacles looking like bubbles. I think it is because of his new position. Any idea what to do about the powerhead. And how to encourage him to split? Wow really!?! Thats so cool that your not far from syracuse. I love it there

hops523 & susieq..I too am from upstate NY, born and raised, moved down south in the late 80's. Kingston NY. Any way, move your powerhead..if he tries to move and gets sucked up in it, he could get injured. Mine did, but luckily I was there and pulled him out, he suffered only a couple of bent tenticals. But they are perment injuries, cause the tips on them did fall off, about two and now he is a little stubby looking, but fine other wise, I was worried about bacterial infection. As far as splitting they do this when conditions are right, I don't think you can get them to split. I would worry about getting him healthy, and not moving around so much, It's bad when they do not take up perment residence..it means they are not happy where they are. Good luck keep us posted.

if i was you, i'd move your anemone to the top of your tank. as much as i think they need to eat, they need good light as well. being on the bottom of your tank can also hurt it. it helped mine out dramatically and was glad i did it.

Hey all I know it has been awhile since we last discussed my anemone. But all I can say is wow he looks so great. I look back at these pics and say "jeez he didnt look too good back then" now he looks so good. I havent seen him without bubble tips in about 3 weeks now! Now I know what he is actually suppose to look like. I will get pics as soon as possible!

I dont know if this is true, but to what I have read, if its the same type of anemone (bubble tip and another bubble tip) they wont really sting each other. I do know if they are different, they can definetly sting each other. Also, if they split, since they are the same they wont sting each other. Thats what my LFS also said.
