Ok im confused....again. I have just recently found out that crushed coral and an undergravel filter is not the way to go! I want to switch to a sandbed but the sand they sell on the net is just to much to pay for some sand. My question is can i make a sandbed with the tropical play sand at the Home Depot? Its like 3 dollars a bag there.........way cheeper! If not could someone explain why i can't buy and use the cheep stuff.

I used the sand at home depot... no ill-consequences. I already spent enough on rocks there was no way in _____ I was going to pay 200 bucks for sand.
cheers.

1 minute time limit for editing? whatever.
i was going to add that there is even a school of thought that claims no substrate is the way to go. so don't feel bad about using crushed coral :)
waste removal is the most important thing IMO to consider w/ a closed system such as our aquariums. i am not entirely convinced that DSB's are the most efficient, however I am convinced that CC is not a very good idea (from personal experience).
cheers!
