Please help identify this little guy. I've been around saltwater fish for a long time but have never seen a juv miniatus grouper. They are usually about 6 inches in the LFS. This grouper was labeled as a miniatus but once I got him home, I'm not sure? Miniatus or red louti???? Thank You for any input.

Maybe a Louti skunk grouper. Can't see the top of him in your pic but if there is a white line running down the top of him, this could possibly be the right kind.

Could be a miniatus, hard to tell from that angle. I think it looks more like a coney grouper though.

Does it have two little dots on the lower lips? Then its a coney (when I had to learn to ID some fish, I always remember this one by thinking it just at a coney island hot dog and got ketchup on its lips...for some reason this always stayed with me). I think they also have a dark spot on the top of the tail base....
Let me see if this pic works...

I have alot of Favs! lol My grouper is my new favorite, such a personality. Makes sure you create alot of caves. They love to just stick there heads out of a hiding spot.
I think my all time fav are wrasses though...
