THIS QUESTION MAY SOUND LIKE A FAMILIAR QUESTION, BUT I AM PLANNING TO SWITH TO LS ON SATURDAY. I CURRENTLY HAVE A 75 GALLON SETUP W/ CC. SEACLONE PRO SKIMMER, 2 P.H. EMPEROR 300 FOR XTRA WATERFLOW. I WAS WONDERING IF I SET THE FISH (4) DAMSELS & LION DWARF FISH & (2) FLORIDA ANEMONES (3) MUSHROOMS IN MY HOSPITAL TANK WITH THE WATER DIRECTLY FROM MY 75 GALLON, WILL THIS CAUSE SOME SPIKES IN MY WATER. AND WILL THIS BE TOO DANGEROUS TO MY SETUP? :)

If you are just moving the water and livestock, you'll get a spike because of lack of bacteria to control nitrites, ammonia and nitrates. You might try this if you have bio ball in your sump, hook your hospital tank to the sump and run it that way until you're ready to place the livestock back in the main tank. Or if you have a sponge filter or corner filter in your sump that you use with the hospital tank, set that up to handle the parameter while you change to LS. HTH

if i understand right? don't try it!
find someone to hold the fish until the change is done. the stress alone will be high!
if you cannot find anyone ,take it slow, very slow.

Have you ever had copper in your hospital tank? If so I have heard that, it can hang around and I would think it could kill your mushrooms. Also i would be afraid of introducing it to your sump..Just a thought

If you are adding the water from your 75 gal. then you shouldn't see too much of a spike. What filtration do you have for you hospital? How long do you anticipate them being in there and how big is the tank? You should know of coarse that any change can cause stress. I have never changed my subtrate so I don't have any experience with that but I know that others here have. Be patient and someone with more experience will get you the answers you need. The only thing that I know for sure is that there is going to be some stress with the move. But there are things that you can do to help reduce that. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Hey,
The best way to make the change over to ls that I've seen is to do it in thirds. Do a third of your tank, wait a few days for things to settle down, then repeat. If you go slow and don't stir things up too badly everthing should be fine. HTH.
Take care,
Dan'l :D

I did this not too long ago. Changed from a 55g w/ cc to an 80g w/ ls. I put all my livesock in my hospital tank with h2o from the 55g. then i set up the 80g. i put the remaining h2o from 55g into 80g. Then added ls and lr. Then added new water to fill 80g. Then i ran my skimmer full tilt for about 2 days to get the suspended gunk out from the move. I tested the 80g water and it was good, i put everyone back in. I got lucky and did not induce a cycle when doing this. I did not have a lot of time when i did this and would not really reccomend this method, but it did work for me. Someone on the BB should chastise me for changing tanks like this, but if it weren't for people like me doing stupid things like this, how would we learn? ;)

How much sand can I add to my 75 gallon setup? I seen some blue sand, and my lfs only has 80lbs. How much sand did I need to purchase?
