My guess would be you have either a loose fitting or a pinhole in your return plumbing that is creating a venturi and pulling air into the hose.

Are the return lines clear?? If so you may be able to see bubbles in them and where they are coming from.
You know, I would have never thought to look...but THANK YOU for pointing it out. The hose from my pump to the return tube (running under the tank) is a flexible accordian style. Upon first look everything appeared to be fine. However, when I took a closer look and ran the length of each hose kind of stretching it out a bit I found a small crack in one of the folds. A quick run to the store and the problem has been reconciled. Thank you so much for pointing out, what I suppose should have been one of the first things to check. This potentially could have turned into a much larger problem.
