Today I just bought protein skimmer & a pump for it , I connected the pump with the inlet of the skimmer, & I connected the small pipe with the pump discharge (venture) , & I started the pump

But unfortunately, instead of air going into the small pipe to create fine bubbles, water coming out of the small tube, although I raised the end of the tube to maximum.

have I done anything wrong?

Hope you get my point.
Please help me as soon as possible,

& thanks,

I'm not familiar with that type of skimmer. That little tube (at least on mine) does not do much. There should be a twist cap that makes the bubbles raise to the collection cup..you want it to make a foam at the top. Can you get a picture? Maybe seeing it will help us understand your problem.

You might have answer my question in a similar thread. I completely forgot about that twist cap! Thank you!

Thank you firstof all for your promote response :)

This is a picture of my skimmer: http://www.boyuaquarium.com/UploadFiles/2008121134330349.jpg

it is BOYU: DT-2516

there is one small tube comes with the skimmer, but I dont know the function of it.
The strange thing, is that this company did not include any booklet or instruction of installation & use!!!!!

Hope you can help me.

Those little red knobs are what controls the skimmer on mine (mine only has one red knob), not the little air tube. Can you turn those?

hello, thank you flower.
mine has two red knobs which controls the outlet flow, but no the air.

My issue is with the pump it self, I ran the pump without the skimmer, it dosnt sucks air from the little tube which should be above the water level, instead, little water coming out of the tube, tried with different pump, again water is coming instead of air going.

The pump suppose to introduce the air to the skimmer no the skimmer it self right?cuz there is no venture in the skimmer it self...
I think i'm doing something wrong!!

Ive connected the pump as shown in the pic http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/images/graphics/va1300powerhead2.jpg

So let me get this right; the bubble suppose to be produced by the skimmer or the pump?or anything else?& if the pump, how?

Ok that skimmer looks close to a coralife super skimmer but looks a little better made. The tube that sticks to the pump with the twist cap controls air (bubble) and the red twist knobs control water lever in the skimmer you will have to play with it to get it how you want it. Also watch the water level in the sump if the water is to high the pump will not be able to suck air into the tube. There is a cure for that witch I know on a super skimmer works is to remove the twist cap on the air inlet line and hook up a small air pump. This allows you to run the skimmer at deeper water levels effectivly. Other than that thats all I got good luck up it works forr you. Looks to me like it might be a decent skimmer have never herd for them but that dont mean it wont kick butt

thank you robertmathern;very useful, I will try to play with the skimmer tomorrow, the sump level is 25 cm deep,so I dont think it is to high.
I heard that skimmer dont work properly in fresh water, & I tried my skimmer in fresh water as a test, as I did not start the cycle yet.
