well if you have corals they lik them so they are not a good for a reef tank setting but if its FO or FOWLR they help keep the rocks clean in the tank. as far as problems you have to watch some of them because for some reason when adding top off water they somehow know it and move to where the fresh water enters the tank and of course thats deadly for a star. but other than that I havent had any problems with them...
are you planning on getting on?

My cc Star eats algea off the glass all the time. I have a fowlr 75 Gal.

choc chips are carnivores, not detrivores. They will eat other starfish (fishes).
