well i ordered a hob refuge and it came with no instructions and i have it all figured out but theres this wierd piece i dont know what its for

that is just the spacer,, between your glass and the fuge so it sits upright,, get it? you adjust that little knob accordingly so it doesnt wiggle and lays flush against the glass..

I have this one also. As the previous poster stated it is to make the HOB sit level and flush to the glass. There are also to lower screws also to adjust. Also make sure you do not over tighten the tubes. The gaskets Two on each go on the outside and like I said do not over tighten. I did that to the tube that the power head goes on and the threads broke off. If you just tighten enough it seems like it will leak but it will not.

THATS what that black rubber band thing is for, to adjsut the level where you want the collection cup AND to prevent it from slidding down.
I love this HOB my Nitrates went from 20- 40 ppm to 0 ppm. Watch the protien skimmer box and make sure it does not get to full. As it gets full it slides down further and fills up more woth water than with Yuck.

I have odyssea lights and the HOB Refrigium and love them both. The collection cup only slips because the inside of the Refrigium gets covered in algea. Nothing big just have to wipe it down once in a while. I like it because it took my Nitrates down to 0 ppm. Minor problem to deal with since it only cost $40.
