Please help with this algae

I have posted this question with little response from everyone. I have a red algae growing on my live rock. It does not look like red slime. It does not have "hair". It is dark red in color and the snails, hermit crabs and emerald crab leave it completely alone. Anyone have an idea on how to control it?

could it be coraline algae? There is a variety of coraline that is a very dark red... typically grows in areas with low light. I have some in my tank.

I've been using this product by Kent Marine called Poly Ox. It is an organic material oxidizer. It assists in preventing growth of various cyanobacteria (commonly called red or blue-green slime algae) by simply removing their food source. The label says that "it will oxidize leftover food, and dissolved and suspended organic matter. This will increase the water quality and provide a better environment for your fish and invertebrates!"
I do have the same problem in the past like the one you have now. I did bought a lot of snails but for no avail (they just died eventually) until I use this treatment. However, care should be taken when using it. Make sure you read the directions carefully or it will back fire on you. Good luck :)

I forgot, If its a coraline algae and doens't bother anything, leave it. Its a good sign. You might want to scrape it off the glass if it gone that far.

I don't think it's coralline. It looks like it has more "substance" than the rest of the coralline algae in my tank.
