i just noticed that on one of the branches of my torch coral, there is a brown film growing over it that wont allow the tentacles to come out...what is this?

sounds like brown jelly disease. do a search on it.
i just searched and this is what i came up with
- can spread to other corals.
- will most likely spread over all the corals tissue and kill it.
-usually caused by poor water quality, shipping stress, or sudden waterchanges.

how big is your tank? it can suffocate very easy if it doesn't have good enuf flow.

you can do this now for EMERGENCY, aim a power at it to get some of that slime off, or syphon it if you can. also it will be a good idea to do a waterchange now causeyou might have high nitrates or phosphates..
