I recently graduated nursing school and the Emergency Department that I did my internship at finally has an opening for a License Eligible Graduate Nurse. I won't be an RN until I take my boards, late next month or early March. I want this job SO bad! It's a Level 1 trauma hospital and while I was interning I got to see the coolest stuff you could imagine... gunshots, stabbings, MVA's, massive head bleeds, strokes, overdoses, heart attacks, etc..
I've done everything I can imagine to get an interview: I did an awesome job on my internship, I sat down and talked to the ED Nursing Director and have since e-mailed him, and I highlighted my experience in the ED on my cover letter and resume. I am confident that if I can get the opportunity to interview with the hospital for this position, I have a real good chance at the job.
Keep your fingers and toes crossed that I get an interview! Surprisingly, every time I apply for an opening I get an e-mail back from the hospital saying, "Thanks for applying...Outstanding qualifications....Too bad, so sad....Maybe next time." The RN job market is so competitive and is not what it was a few years ago when I entered school. I really hope I so much as get an interview.

^ Oh, I'm terrified of needles when they are meant for me, except for tattoo needles for some reason. It's terrifying to think what a needle stick can do to someone. All it takes is one dirty needle to change your life and your families lives forever. I also can't stand poop. I have to pull my shirt over my face when cleaning up after my dog. It's weird that I chose nursing as a profession for that reason, but that's what's great about the E.D. Sure, you get your poopers, but most of the time you get them in and out before they can drop their first load!
I can't imagine anything cooler than being part of a team that saves lives everyday. That's why I got into nursing in the first place. Sure, the paychecks will be decent, but knowing that at the end of the day I made a difference in someones life...that's what it's all about. Sadly, gunshots, stabbings, MVA's, hemorrhages, strokes, heart attacks, etc., are part of life, but being on the side of these things that tries to remedy the situation is beautiful. I remember the first time I had to do CPR (which is much more violent than you would imagine); the man passed away but knowing that I was part of the last efforts to save his life, that we did everything we could, is where it's at.

Thanks Shawn! I still haven't heard back from the hospital, but I consider that to be a good thing. It's been long enough that I think I'd have gotten the e-mail of doom by now, and when I check the status of my application online it says "Processing" so my glass is still half full at this point.

Good luck, don't worry there is still a good market for RN's. Did you get the 4 year degree? My brother is one, and well I think yall are getting screwed, there isn't enough money in the world to get me to do some of the stuff he's had to do... So have fun...
