Please tell me I didn't just do what I did!

Polk dude...the film on the top of the water..if left in tact can interfere with the O2 exchnage within the tank...unless you have a very active filtration system which will conduct the ga exchanges out of the tank and provide oxygenated water back in..you will have problems eventually.

Shrimp person...looking at your pictures...you do have a nusiance algae problem...something for you to consider taking care of prior to any further purchaes one would think...a sure sign of less the adequate water quality.

Chances are they will not jump, UNLESS you stress/ provoke them.
I'd suggest turning off the lights for atleast 12-24 hrs., or you may shock them.
Also, acclimating for over 3 hrs. is too long IMO. You shouldn't have left the floating in the bag that long due to oxygen depletion, but they should be fine.
And as everyone else suggested, do either glass tops or egg crate. Either will work.

I would use R/O water, and get a cleanup crew. I think emerald crabs are pretty much the only thing that will eat hair algea, but i'm not sure.

Check your water paremeters...nitrate, phosphate, silicate...check your amonia as well...
If you are not using RO/DI water now...start....when you start...do about 10-15% water changes about 3-4 days apart...augment your efforts with a snail clean-up crew...if you are able to continue feeding and/or meeting the needs of an emerald crab...get one of them too...they work good and are really cool to watch.
Micro algae is considered by many to be a nusiance algae...hair algae...what it looks like in your pics...is a nusiance/micro algae...most use micro algaes only as a monitoring tool...in the aspect that if it starts to grow..something is array in the tank.
Alot of people are often fooled by a low amonia reading...if your amonia is always measurable but very low...the nitrates will continuously build up...one must find the source of the ever present lower amonia.
Always remember that natural will always prove better then chemical or otherwise for water chemistry...as we strive to mimmick nature in our little closed marine environments...with that said...sometimes this doesnt always work...so one looks for non-natural remedies such as phosphban or other artificial removals items.
Always augment...dont rely wholey on...snails and other clean-up crews...they are not the 100% answer.
Compare your tank pics with the other guys tank...you will see the difference in his doesnt have the nusiance algae.
Good luck with your tank.
