I currently have a 55 semi-reef tank with a Med. Yellow Tang, Maroon Clown, Jawfish, Long Spine Urchin, Cleaner Shrimp, crabs and snails. I currently have 2 40 watt lights hanging about 2 inches from the top of the tank(I plan On one more 40 what. Should I git Another Actinic or another 50/50? I like the blue tint of the Actinic. But I want to git whats best) , which is covered with Plexiglass. My question is, Would there be a chance of any of these fish jumping out If I removed the top and left it open. I had planned on hanging the lights about a inch of the top of the tank surface. Please help!!

Some people do not have covers directly on their tanks but I don't suggest it. Yes, jumping fish is a definate possibility, AND ESPECIALLY JAWFISH! If you leave a tank uncovered with a jawfish in it, the fish will hit the floor before you can count to three! Jawfish are nortorious jumpers. I have had jawfish jump even through the small space needed to allow for equiptment outlet from the aquarium!
Otherwise, with tank open you get lots more evaporation as well as more airborn pollutants coming into direct contact with your tank. This includes house dusk, cig. smoke, cooking smoke, household cleaners, etc., etc. And this you don't want.

Someone might disagree with me on this one but-- I would do the actinic. I definately would alawys keep the tank covered!

the rock says....
make it three 50/50 lights, or get the one actinic, as for the top, be ready to top that baby off every day which is a hassle!
