plumbing a 120rr closed loop?????

my tank only has 1 corner overflow and i would like to run a closed loop system. the tank has a 2" and a 1" holes drilled which i would want to use for the sump/fuge. would it be possible to have the intake on the closed loop inside the overflow box itself? i dont see why it wouldnt work unless the overflow itself couldnt handle the flow. i want to turn the tank over at least 35 times an hour. does anyone have experience running a closed loop system like this?

You'd want the CL to have it's own source of water draw not drawing from inside the overflow box.........Lets say to shut the main pump down during feeding and leave the CL pump running, then your CL pump would starve of water and that as well would have to be shut down

if i put the cl intake lower than the sump intake it would not.

IMO it still wouldn't work.....If your using the overflow as your source to feed both the sump and the CL.....Even if you put the CL intake at the bottom if your "Main Pump" is shut off it won't draw water from the sump up to the tank which in turn would flow over into the overflow and again your CL pump would starve......Your relying on your return pump either way you look at it to supply the water to the overflow box.......Don't see it honestly working.
Even if it would work it technically wouldn't be a CL in the sense because it's not a true CL system

I agree with the above posts.
When you are ready, I have a like new Danner Mag. drive 2400 (gph) pump. used inline or submerged, used 10 minutes total. bcool831@pldi.net

i dont see how else i would be able to get the turn over out of this tank, without having 10 powerheads.
if the main pump were shut off the overflow would drain to the sump outlet and if it were higher in the overflow box than the cl intake, the cl would just recycle the water in the overflow without needing any more water from the sump.
the main problem i see would be that i would have to have a self priming pump for the cl or have the pump in the overflow box itself.

Try it and see if it works with the pump in the overflow box......Why not just drill the tank for a CL?
