today was test run day
step one...went to buy some hole-saws for drilling the Sterilite sump. Couldn't have worked any better. Tested it out on a lid first. Perfect.
added water from tap so I could see the plumbing in working order.
2 problems
....leaks in spots where I definitely primed and cemented. plus my bulkhead return was leaking. added some of that white plumbers tape on the threaded portions (can't think of the name right now)...and hand tightened... and added cement around other spots where needed and.... No more leaks.
Girlfriend says...oh your water is not level. I look, see it's not level... pain in the a$$.
since it was a test and was using tap anyways...had to take water out. siphoned out down to about 2" in the display
...nearly kill my lungs trying to get a siphon going thru a 50ft hose. stopped trying... too tired.
now I need to get something to level this damn tank off...
what a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

question....I've heard from others that I should get rid of the check valve . that they are unreliable and don't work when you need em. is this true???
they suggest that I do the hole at the end of the return. Can't I have both. Is it really such a bad thing if I keep the check valve?

I am relatively new to this....
I think this design looks great. I am working up to a 120-180 with a sump and a fuge below.
I don't understand the pump and how it works in your design. It looks like it takes water from the sump and pumps it into the main tank and into the fuge. How does the water exit the fuge?
