Is it OK to use teflon tape on sump return line and overflow fittings? Also how about the use of PVC glue on the fittings- ok or is there a special glue for Schedule 40?

It is OK but I would not trust it. I would however use the pvc glue. Just make sure you clean it first, aI always get sloppy with it though and have blue crap showing like this

Why would you not trust the teflon tape. I have used it for a long time and it works and seals great as long as you wrap it right and use the right amount. I use the pink tape now as it is twice as thick as the white tape and works especially good on large fittings.

I have seen a slip fitting with teflon tap loosen up when it was hooked up to a mag. It was another member of this board "Grumpyoldman" he immediatley glued everything.

Dont take this the wrong way but you only use teflon tape on threaded fittings- never use it on PVC slip fittings- they were not made for tape.
