pod food?

I was wondering what do pods eat? My tank has only been cycling for two weeks and I have literally thousands of them, which doesnt seem normal. I'm getting concerned because some of my coralline patches on my LR are dieing. Are the pods eating the coralline, because I have no idea how my tank can house so many pods. What is killing my coralline?

i thought that the pods ate wahtever was on the sandbed and not any specific algae. are you adding calcium that could be the reason for the die off.
hope this helps

send me some pods. How did you get them on your second week of the cycle? My tank's been up for two months and I haven't seen a single one.

I dont know? It beats me. I have asked so many people if this was normal (even my LFS) and everyone said no and that I'm lucky. I looked up Copepods in the encyclopedia and they were definitely them. They are everywhere in my tank.

I've been thinking about getting a scoop of LS from my neighbor, but I was under the impression that you shouldn't get any for a few months at the least.

Yep, you are a lucky one! But, the further into the cycle you may lose some. As for the coraline--I seriously doubt the pods are eating it. I dont remember having much coraline when I cycled (at that time I thought it looked ugly---go figure), but maybe the cycle is doing it. In time it will return. What to feed pods--dont worry about feeding them. You said you used no LS, do you have other sand or a bare bottom tank? Just curious.
