i set my tank up a couple of weeks ago. i have a yellow tang, 2 damsel's, 1 sally lightfoot crab, and a scooter blenny in there now. i am getting ready to arder a clean up crew to get the tank into shape for corals. My question today is; When i set the tank up (i bought the live rock and tank used) i saw all these ominous little creatures (dead) floating around my tank. I now know these were the amphipods that i have read posts about recently. i got a flashlight out last night and could not find any in my tank. does it take a while to get these guys back or am i screwed on pods now that they are dead and will have to buy more rock with them in it. like i said they were floaties when i put the rock in in the first place. 2 weeks in the set up right now

I could see my pods after about 2 weeks of setting up my 10 gallon. I can find them running around the rock when the lights are on. Then when I turn the lights off, about 15 minutes later, I see even smaller type critters flying around the glass near the sand bed. How long have you had your tank running now? Not sure, but wouldn't the blenny be eating some of your pods. If it is and you already had a small population, it could have demolished it and not allow it to get to large.

2 weeks now. are they necessary to the good health of the tank? and if so, how should i get them back

They are both a necessity and indication of a good tank.
Somehow you have to introduce them again. A good piece of live rock can do this. If you have any 'pod preditors' present though, they will wipe out any pods you introduce.
