Answer is Yes!, they are called ditrivore kits, and they are rather expensive.

there's even a website that sells pods and mysis for breeding, rather expensive also. buying pods is not a good idea. if you want them just start a refugium. have a tank with live rock, sand, and some macro algae and good lighting with no present predators of pods and in no time you'll have a booming population of pods. its a lot cheaper than buying pods anywhere.

What if you have 90 lbs of LR in a 55 gal with 270 W lights? But there is also a green mandarin searching for some grub....can they grow enough to keep him fed? He seems to be doing well right now. I spot feed him brine, but he prefers to scavange the rock looking for pods.
I am worried I don't have enough to feed him and he definitely doesn't love the brine. I have seen him eat it, but in general he doesn't.

In my experience with a 55 gallon tank and a HUGE population of pods the end result will be the mandarin decimating that population in a matter of months or less in a closed system with no fuge or other means of repopulating the pods.

Okay.....tell me if this will work Thomas. I have no room at all for a fuge unless I drill a hole in the floor next to my tank. And then I am talking about a 6 foot runup minimum to my tank which would require a pretty good pump.
So........ I do have a 20 gal up and running with about 40 lbs of sand and 20 lbs of LR. That LR is loaded with algae right now. Can I assume it will have a good number of pods? I was thinking that I could swap rocks periodically.
I have a feeling if I don't come up with something, I am going to have a dead mandarin on my hands one day.

IMO swapping 20 lbs of lr won't do you too much good, but i may be wrong. i think changing the aquascape frequently can stress out the inhabitants also. 90lbs of lr is a good amount and if the tank is established i wouldn't worry too much. you can block off an area inside your 90g with clear acetate with small wholes in it where pods can come in and out but still block out the fish. but i guess you wouldn't wanna do so unless you can manage not making your aquarium look too tacky. a fuge is really your best option.
