No - he probably means the Republican backed bill in 1999 that helped deregulate the bank industry. Or perhaps Mcains campaign manager, Rick Davis, was paid by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac several hundred thousand dollars to head up an organization to lobby in their behalf called The Homeownership Alliance. Or perhaps the ....... Get the point?
The finger actually points to both republicans and democrats who helped create the current mess. Not to mention something called greed by the loaners and the loan takers. One party is not responsible. But keep blaming the Democrats if it makes you feel better about yourself and your political views.

BTW even Robert Rubin, Said that bill had nothing to do with this crisis. It only allowed them to sell the morgages as securities. I think you're missing the root cause of this. This isn't a cause of deregulation, but caused from the federal government imposing quotas requiring companies to lend to the subprime market.
The problem isn't so much party as it is ideology, there are liberal republicans. Who work the democratic created grease system like the best liberal. And I have no excuse for them. However attempting to imply conservative ideology and principles are the cause of this problem would be an inaccurate conclusion. I think what you'll see when discussing this issue, is a liberal lumped in with democrats since liberal, socialist ideology and philosophy run as the foundation of democrat platform.
But I do ask you to consider this.
Take into account that even Biden insinuated this month, that he'd consider pursuing changes against bush and his administration, for some unamed crime.
Do you not think that if there was a republican at the bottom of this, we'd be hearing the calls for the congressional witch hunt, from the likes of dodd, reid, and pelosi? But I haven't seen a single call for an investigation, a hearing or anything.

Agreed,
There is plenty of blame, just be sure Obama admits to his party's part in the issue too.
The current rhetoric is "republicans did it" or "Bush did it", not "we all screwed up and need to sit down and fix it without partisan squabbles, or overt socialism.
When McCain antes up to actually attempt to fix the mess, the media to a person call it a "Hail Mary" play.

The sub prime mess was started in 95 when Clinton had Reubin rewrite the laws to increase minority home ownership Politicians on both sides of the isle didn't have the backbone to stand up to the leftist smear machine that would have called them racists had they oppose the bill.

I mean both parties in general, who have screwed around on many important issues.
