Just so you know, even a book about fish, and certainly a website can be wrong. According to the scientific description of the adult Melanopus, the ventrical fins are solid black. They range in color from the bright red of a Tomato to dark brown. A million people saying they think it's one does not make it one.
This is a young juvi
This a little more mature
And this a young adult

Yes, it is. It is their first batch! I am setting up a 10g fry tank and am receiving a rotifer culture today. Hopefully I can save some of the babies even though it was "unplanned".
Thanks for your help!

let me know how that goes i will be doing the same with my maroon clowns in the near future, they lay about every 10-12 days but so far i have not set up the fry tank or anything else for them, i know they are hatching though, last week i turned off my filters shortly after the lights went off, and put a flashlight in the corner of my tank, after about 30 mins i had in the range of 300-400 clownfich fry swimming in my light, i was very sad when i turned my filters back on and watched them disappear into my reef for good, i didnt expect to see that many when i did the old flashlight trick

These are my mated pair of Cinnamons, 5 years old. I know the photos might not be very good but hopefully they can help. The eggs start first 2 days as very orange and then turn vert dark the nearly black befor the fry are free swimming. The eggs NEVER look red.....As I said in your other thread, I beleive yours are both Tomatos...Good luck with raiseing them.....I just let mine become tasty treats....

Oh, that IS sad! I think it will take dedication to get the babies to the point of being able to sell them, but it will be fun to try! I also read they can spawn every 2 weeks. Lot's of chances to practice..

like i said mine have been breeding every 10-12 days for the last 5 months, they went one 23 day period between lays, but mostly it is 10-12 days, i keep a log of all of my breeding as i have a pair of clowns, a pair of cardinals that breed every 25 days, and a pair of watchmans that breed every 35-40 days some day i will be raising the fry from these three pairs, just not now

Mine are on a 14 day period. Eggs lay for 10 days and 4 days later they lay again. Like clock work...
