So, as the poll asks, Do you prefer glass or acrylic for your aquariums?
Why do you prefer glass?
Why do you prefer acrylic?
Why do you prefer another container?

For a "standard" size tank I'd go with glass. If I was going to build a large custom tank I would go acrylic without question.

A friend of mine has his entire setup done with two huge plastic bins (100g and 50 g). Great setup, but you can obviously only view top down.

I have 11 tanks which are a mixture of glass and acrylic. Both have their pluses and both have their downside.
I'm putting up 2 tanks right now. A 90g glass and a 100g acyrlic.

Hi,
Glass is harder to scratch. It can be cleaned of algae easier. Most important for me is that it does not absorb, so if the tank was used or misused before it can be cleaned up and your good to go.
IMO Plastic (acrylic) holds chemicals, and the remains of past mistakes, like copper. It might sound silly but plastic is plastic to me.
For me with all the emotional rollercoaster this hobby creates, why add one more awful what if for me to consider.

Acrylic is not the same as your typical plastic. Both glass and acrylic have some degrees of porosity. I have never heard of it retaining chemicals. Where did you get this info out of curiosity?

once you use copper in any tank there's no getting it out. glass is heavier and i like that it's harder to scratch. acrylic is easier to custom drill and any minor scratches can be buffed out with a lot of elbow grease.
