I was wondering if I could put a yellow tang in my 55 gallon tank. Right now I have 2 damsels and 1 cinnamon clownfish. I have 60lbs of live sand and 40lbs of live rock. I'm thinking on buying a 420watt light. WOULD IT DO FINE YES OR NO

i say no. Maybe a young one, but even then i wouldn't. They need a lot of swimming room, and if they don't have it, it can cause them to stress out, which can lead to ich, or death...

he would have to be a small one and when he gets bigger you would have to upgrade
but yeh, as long as he is small

Are you referrng to a 55 long or 55 tall?
A 55 long should have 48inches of swimming room which is the same as some larger tanks also

I have a med size one in my 55g...nice and fat...the only thing is the smaller the tank, the more aggressive they are. Mine had killed 2 fish b/c its so aggressive...one was a female wantanabi angel..GRRR...as soon as I find something as bright colored I am trading it in...

I would only do it if you have firm plans for a larger tank. They are a big fish, and they should outgrow these smaller tanks. If they don't, you have two issues. Either the fish isn't really healthy, or you don't see that it is too large for the system. Both are common problems. You tend not to want to trade in a fish that you have grown attached to, even if it is in the best interest of the fish. So in general I discourage this unless, as mentioned, you are simply "growing it out" for a known larger system.
How old is your system?
