trying to figure out why my toadstool wont open. the second pic is of the one in question. the first of another on the opposite side of the tank. salinity 1.025, ph 8.1, all other paramaters in check. about 300w of t-5 retros in a 72 gal w 2 mj 1200's. ive had this guy for over 6 weeks and he just wont open up. ive tried moving around the tank with no success. am i missing something. thanks.

it looks like its currant placement sucks. poor light and no flow try placing it in front of a power head close to the top the tank so it can shed. one more thing I dont think its a toad stool it looks like a young figi leather

yeah, i tried to shade it thinking lighting was an issue. it seems to do better at the bottom of the tank, but i will move it again in the morning. can you think of any other reasons? i dont know if some other factors are playing an issue that im unaware of. and you could be right, im not too good with the id thing yet:)...but i like it cause its on a rock with zoos and a brain (cant see them in the pic.)

I would try changing your carbon and switching leathers. put the green leather where the toadstool is and see how the react. do you know the last time it shed?

ive had it about 6 weeks, i think, and it hasnt shed. ive never run carbon in this tank and its been up for about a year and a half. should i try that? the other on sheds about every 10-15 days.

yes the shed is toxic to its self after time. You always need carbon with leathers. Also change the carbon every month so the toxins dont leak back in the tank. a properly placed leather will never be seen sheding its skin, it will do it contiuasly in small portions and be blown away before it acumilates enough to be seen. Lastly remember if the top of the leater is shiny it wants to shed and needs a higher flow
