Porcelain Crabs

I just bought a few of these little guys from SWF. I read on there site and they seemed like a good fit to my 125 g tank, but I read in another book that they need a anemone to survive and if my clowns push them out they will die. Does anyone have any experience with this? Please let me know.

An anemone to them could easily be a soft coral or an LPS. My anemone shrimp uses my xenia to sit in. From what I have read the only reason they utilize an anemone or corals is for protection because they are fragile.

These are some awesome lil guy's, I think it's cool when they are perched and filter feeding. I have one in my Bta and another in my Frogspawn. Here is some pics.

Cool guys that are always filter feeding, I heard they do much better w/anemones as the anemone will excude mucus that it eats but as you see bellow people have them host other corals as well but their diet might need to be supplimented by some frozen cyclopeeze.

Mine do't go near my BTA. Aslo I got one in a tank with no anemone and he;s just fine.

no the anemonie crab like the clown fish uses the anemonie as protection. here is a pic of them both

Th first one you have is called the "spotted porcelain crab" and the second we are talking about is called the "porcelain anemone crab".

Thanks for all the replys. From what I am seeing in all the pictures is that they just hang out with the anomone and not really in it. Is that correct? I have the purple looking porclain anemone crab not the other one.

Im basing my info off this site and my lfs's wholeseller list. quite possible this is like the blue/hippo/regal, tang many names one animal

cant speak of the purple crab but the white one lovesto hang out under the anemonies
