Very surprising, typically puffers are only aggressive toward fish they can make a meal out of. Maroons are not exactly active fish, they like to hang out in one spot and guard it, this was likely the Maroons downfall.
Again, very surprising though, I had this combo for a few years without issue, my Puffer was a good 7 inchs, and the Maroon ended up about 5 inch.

Thats small for a full grown Porc, but at that 3-4" that can't be a problem related to tank size. You sure it didn't bite him on accident while they were feeding?

I have a 14" porky in with a false perc and he got bit at feeding, but never had the two got in to it. My puffer is quite calm and leaves the chromis alone also from 1"-4" in size so sould not be an issue.

I to have a porc. puffer, about 5 to 6 inches had her since she was tiny tiny. A week ago I put my 3 clowns into the 210g with her, crossed my fingers that all would go good. Well......the puffer doesn't even seem like she knows their there. Even when I feed the clowns are right in the middle and she hasn't been aggressive toward them at all.
Just a hour ago I put my blue spotted jaw fish in that I have had in another tank but wanted him in the big DT so everyone could enjoy him. Crossing my fingers all will be ok, but so far only the lawn mower blenny is picking on him. So I hope my puffer behave's herself. Which I feel she will as one of my clowns is pretty tiny.

I have a 3.5 inch clown (maroon) and a puffer that was smaller than clown, now 4-5 inches. They do well together. Just make sure you are feeding the puffer enough. If your fish are well fed they will be less likely to eat what else is around. I dont advocate overfeeding, but I will say my porc is a veracious eater
